Registration in Australia |
A requirement before
commencing to practice in Australia. This is done with the Medical
Registration Board in the Australian state (see below) where you intend
to practice. This will require meeting the stringent examination
requirements set down by the
Australian Medical Council. The registration will invariably be
subject to supervision by a specific supervisor nominated by the Board. For
this step to occur there will be a requirement to be in employment and a set
time set down for the location of the practice. The time set down reflects
the remoteness of the appointment in an area of need largely. The states
differ in many respects. Each state Medical Registration Board applies the
language standards required for doctors in this process. |

Temporary
Residence |
For overseas trained
doctors who obtain conditional Medical Registration employment is
effectively identified in the same process. A temporary work visa for up to
4 years is needed to commence work and can be obtained. Prior to that,
university research and other short term visas may be required while
completing the Australian Medical Council exam requirements. |
|
Assessment
for Migration |
Application for
permanent residence (citizenship conferral can be possibly be sought later)
can be made in practice after working temporarily in Australia. (New
Zealanders can freely transfer.) It is invariably a requirement, for
overseas trained doctors, to have achieved unconditional registration
with the State Medical Registration Board, before applying for
permanent residence under the skilled stream including that where employer
nomination is involved. In many cases doctors have achieved fellowship of
one of the Colleges at this point of their career which greatly simplifies
the processing. |

Registration in Australia |
Holding a practising
certificate from a Nurse Registration Authority in the Australian state
in which you intend to work is a necessity. Once INITALLY REGISTERED, where
your qualifications, suitability and experience are verified directly to
your home country registration authority (good standing established), you
are able to accept employment in that state. In moving from state to state
there is a MUTUAL RECOGNITION procedure between the states. |

Temporary Residence |
Nurses holding nurse
registration in an Australian state can seek employment as a nurse, and the
employer can sponsor employees for a temporary residence visa for the nurse
and their family for up to 4 years. “Extensions” are available. |
|
Assessment
for Migration |
Registered Nurses can
apply directly for permanent residence (and later for conferral of
citizenship) with or without first holding a temporary residence. This is by
applying to the Australian Nursing
and Midwifery Council for
the Assessment. Nurses already registered in Australia can apply for this
assessment in the streamlined procedure. |

Hallmark
Immigration can readily refer Registered Nurses to employers in Sydney. |
